The making of Gone Beyond

Caitlin Kraus’ second full-length album Gone Beyond features ten songs, many of which were written during the beginning period of the pandemic. During this time, she was lucky to be part of the virtual chapter of a songwriter circle based out of Athens, OH, and all of the songs (with the exception of “Let Me Out,” which was written when Kraus still lived in Austin, TX) emerged from the prompts and support of talented songwriters in this group. While none of these songs are overtly about the pandemic, much of the music and lyrics center on themes of loss and transformation (a thread from the first album), acceptance and letting go in the face of uncertainty, and seeking love and connection (be that to self or to others).

All of the songs on Gone Beyond were recorded, produced, mixed, and mastered by Bernie Nau of Peachfork Studios in Pomeroy, OH. They feature Matt Box on electric bass, Mark Hellenberg on drums, Bernie Nau on keyboard and background vocals/whistling, John Borchard on electric 12-string as well as baritone guitar and pedal steel, and Kyle Slemmer on baritone saxophone. Caitlin sings lead vocals on all of the songs as well as some harmonies along with playing electric and acoustic guitar.
